Renu Ramachandran

(Neethi chatting up with Renu)

Hi Renu, after so long, we are re-connecting . I can’t believe it is already 25 years since we said bye and left our college. I understand you are in Saudi, which place  are you now and how is life in general ?

Now I am in Al-Jubail  in Saudi Arabia with my family. Life here is very different from what we are used to in Kerala.

We wish to hear about your family , how are your kids and what are they doing ?

My husband: Renjit R, General Manager in Al Suwaidi Industrial Services Co Ltd. Son Atul Renjit is doing House Surgency in MS Ramaiah medical college Bangalore . Daughter Malavika is studying in Sixth standard here. She is also learning bharatanatyam. All are enjoying their life and doing well.

There may be many people from MACE in Saudi. Are you in touch with them? By the way do you wear Burkha when you go out ?

Life in Saudi is very restricted. Moving around is allowed only with family. There is not much entertainment to make it interesting.  Initially it was a bit hard to accept, now adjusted with this lifestyle. Burkha is not a problem, its like wearing a black long overcoat. Apart from my husband’s work related matters, we don’t have any interaction with locals here.

We have lot of close friends and family; we get together often. Entertainment is going to the malls. Sometimes association conducts programs with children dance etc.  I usually come to Kerala during school vacation time in July August.

How do you feel about meeting old friends after a long gap?

Already met many of classmates in our last get together; feel very excited to meet rest of class and batch mates.

What was your dream as a child? How do you find the scope for woman engineers in a place like Saudi?

When I was a child I wanted to become a doctor like my mother. But later on seeing her busy hectic schedules my mind changed and I became an Engineer. Now busy in family because in country like Saudi Arabia there are not many opportunities for ladies in Engineering field.

If you meet your own younger self in MACE today what would you say ?

Enjoy and study well…achieve everything that you aim in your life.

What is the most memorable event from MACE that you may like to share?

My friends gang…my hostel…my college life

What is your advice to current and future students of MACE ?

Enjoy your college life along with studies..
